Charles's profession(s)

Looking for a creative career, to explore his way of being, he studied radio and broadcasting at Carleton U in Ottawa and then commercial art and design at what was, during his time there, known as OCA and now OCAD. He took a break from studies in the early 80's and found employment on research ships he had access to while living in NS, which took him to the Arctic with its awesome icebergs and unique vistas he was marvelled by. He travelled to the ship via helicopter, during their mid journey, close to the Arctic Circle, meeting them in a stunning, though isolated world, most people never get to experience firsthand. A fabulous first day at work, this was just one of the many times he knew and appreciated, the blessings he was given with the experience and opportunities he lived. This seemed only fair, for all of the chronic trauma, and difficult years he endured being an extremely sick child. Due to that experience, he had the ability to adjust to his surroundings, while putting people at ease, attracting, and searching out new worlds of knowledge to experience, in-depth usually. By doing so, he enjoyed many meaningful friendships along the way. Curiosity, and a vast range of interests, and talents to match, made for a very inspired and beneficial life, he happily shared with others. These and other employment opportunities or studies he undertook enabled him to be able to develop a career of his dreams as a relatively young adult. For many years he enjoyed working hard and set his own path for a stellar career as an instructor of Macintosh technology, using Adobe products from the beginning of this technological revolution evolving with it while opening many minds to its possibilities. He met many talented and interesting people, mostly in Toronto; another place close to his heart, through his work. In this way, his zeal for people was well satiated. He was dedicated to his students and developing his craft. He recognized and loved feeling he had a place in effecting history during this time with his well suited and unique combination of skills. Anytime his life reflected the sci fi he enjoyed reading, and imagining, he was thrilled to be alive and part of it, witnessing from within as it evolved. Writing was another way he could express his knowledge as he was fantastic at making topics understandable and interesting, making for a satisfying and useable read. Having learned how to read at 5 yrs of age he had a rabid passion for reading all of his life and intrigued by a wide range of topics, which lead to his love and joy in developing his writing skills. Nothing made him happier than being paid to do things he loved while enhancing peoples lives in the process.

Obituary

An Old World Gentleman, with a kind, giving and beautiful soul.

Charles passed in hospital due to prolonged health issues.

He is predeceased by his father Charles Everett Goodall. He leaves behind his cherished Mother, Dorothy Goodall as well as his sisters Cathie, Theresa, Donna, and Pat along with nieces, nephews, and many cousins. He also leaves behind longtime friends Ken C and Michael D. He was loved dearly.

Charles was a blessing to our family in so many ways. He was the second youngest of five. He was born with kidney disease and so his eldest sisters helped their mother to care for him. They were happy to help in this way. In spite of his debilitating disease, he accomplished so much. This is because of his strong determination, optimism and resilience. He seldom complained. For all those who knew him, he was well liked and a true gentleman. As an adult he took on the role of an “older brother" and was always looking out for his siblings. A talented and thoughtful man, he commanded a dry and witty sense of humour, a vast curiosity and a very bright, positive and intrepid mind.

Truly an amazing person. He was creative, caring, loving and gentle in nature. He had a wonderful perspective on life. As an avid reader he was well versed in many interesting subjects. An excellent writer and story teller. We always looked forward to messages from him. He loved to sail and scuba dive as well as walk in nature and through the city while photographing with his artistic eye. His experiences gave him a compassionate heart and he would pay it forward to the Children’s Hospital at Christmas by bringing toys and gifts to the sick children. He had an incredible light and energy that he shared with others and that will carry on, in those he connected with and into the afterlife. Energy never ceases and he will likely show us heavenly signs of his presence and of his protection.

We want to thank our dear Charles for gracing us with his presence. He fought hard to stay with us. He always kept a zest for life and made the most out of each and every day, enjoying many good years. In his later years he moved to Nova Scotia. He loved being there and and even more, loved living closer to his Mother.

No better son, brother, uncle or cousin! So proud we are to have known him and love him. We know we will reunite with him one day when we transition from this earthly realm. Rest easy Charles, You will be greatly missed!

A special mention must be made to cousins David and Leslie McKenna who provided him with their kind, generous and diligent assistance when he was in great need in Halifax during and after his life. Thank you so much! With great admiration he and we are very appreciative of all you did to welcome and help him and Theresa and Cathie, and Donna who are forever in your debt. Thank you to Parkstone Enhanced Care Home for their enthusiastic care and consideration while Charles resided there and their memorial for him, giving our mother, and residents he met there, a chance to celebrate his life. Gratitude to Carla his Social Worker for all her assistance for him in life and his family after his passing. We appreciate the Halifax Hospital and Dialysis Unit and the many medical teams for all of their kindnesses, brilliance and exceptional care to keep him alive and well, throughout his life. Thank you as well to Andrew from East Coast Memorial, who was very accommodating, caring and kind. Much appreciation to Benson B for taking great care of Theresa and Cathie, by generously opening your home to them to stay and providing drives as they required while in NS taking care of Charles' end of life tasks. Thank you Ken C and Michael D for your continuous friendship through many decades and in keeping Charles' spirit well. He always looked forward, in hopes to see you again. Chosen brothers of the best kind; admired and respected, with much love.
