Cecil Lee Mathews, was born on September 1.1940 in Detroit, MI (both parents preceded him in death).

Cecil attended Detroit Public Schools. Cecil received his GED while serving in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962.

Cecil met and married Louzola and two children were born, Cecil Mathews Jr. and Alicia Mathews (who preceded him in death).

Cecil held various job positions throughout his employment years, Chrysler Corporation, U.S. Postal Service and Elm-hurst Home, Inc. Ultimately retiring from the Detroit Club in Downtown Detroit, where he was employed as a Desk Clerk.

Cecil had a passion and love for health and fitness. He loved swimming. Cecil participated every year in the Turkey Trott and Free Press 26 mile Marathon. He used to run from Jackson Park in Canada to the United States, until his health no longer allowed him. He continued his fitness with walking, and riding his bike, all just to stay in shape.

Cecil met Dorothy Gamble in 1982 and after 17 long years of courtship they married on December 31, 1999

On June 7, 2020, Cecil quietly passed away while asleep. Leaving his memories to his wife, Dorothy; son, Cecil Jr.; grand-children, Cecil, Jessie, Ricardo, Elysa, Kiah and a special grand-son, D'Andres (who cared for him until his death); great grandchildren, Ricardo, Raquown, Katen, Kadence and Tyanna; four brothers, Melvin (who preceded him in death), Charles (Ann), Arnold (Claudia) and Delenor (Vanessa); one loving sister, Patricia; two step-children, James and D'Andres; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, in-laws and friends.

This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
