Cathie McDowell was a wonderfully fun and smart woman. She was born in Ohio, then grew up in Greene County Pennsylvania. She was raised by her father Tom and her mother Janet, in Mather, along with her sister Tammi. After high school, she first went to school for cosmetology before ultimately deciding to become a nurse like her mother. She graduated at Waynesburg University in 1992. Cathie worked as a registered nurse in the emergency department for many years and specialized in pediatrics. She was very proud of her array of medical knowledge and expertise. Cathie also loved country music and was a big George Strait fan and she loved to dance. She was a very welcoming and caring soul. She welcomed anyone into her world. She was extremely intelligent and she always stepped up when she had an opportunity to help in any meaningful way. She applied that to both her career and her life, always friendly and outgoing towards her fellow employee's members of the community. But still the type who met unfairness or injustice head on, almost always starting with a dialogue in an attempt to resolve things peacefully if possible. She didn't just take it from people, that's for sure. Her family was another thing she spent a large portion of her life attempting to maintain social connection with. She leaves behind a considerable number of them to carry on her spirit and memory throughout Ohio, PA, and elsewhere. As many of them will remember, she loved the ocean and the beach. They spent majority of the summers of her sons childhoods together at a beach house that all of them had come together and rented out like a private hotel. These trips would make a huge impact on her children, cousins, nieces and even elder family members who spent some of the best nights of their lives together on these trips. Even the sharks were interesting to her. She's left us far too soon at only 57 years old. But she's at peace now, her pain is no more and her struggles are behind her.
Her immediate family consists of her husband Martin (Marty) McDowell whom she married in May of 96, and her sons Tommy and Stevie Ray Wheaton, his fiancé Candice and their three children, Aiden, Stephen Jr., and Roman.
She will be remembered by her step-son Jesse Richie his wife Amanda, their daughter Grace, and their sons Gabe, Noah, and Huck.
Her sister Tammi Byers and her Husband DJ, along with their daughters, Cathie's nieces, Danica Erin and Chelsey Byers will all miss her dearly.
She will be lovingly remembered so long as they live, she will give them strength when times are trying, she left them wisdom for times of crisis, her memory will warm their hearts on winter nights and fill them with laughter around summer campfires, best of all a reason to smile any time they hear the roar of the ocean waves or feel that warm coastal breeze around them.
We'll plant real trees for you in Cathie's memory and display your contribution forever.
All condolences, notes and wishes in this book of memories.
