Casper served in World War II as an MP in the United States Army in China, Burma, and India
Casper worked at Sperry Marine in Charlottesville, Va until retirement age
In retirement, he enjoyed card tournaments and chats on Main Street in Stanardsville and was a skilled gardener
Casper was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Corine Francis Knight; his son, John Casper Knight Jr.; his daughter, Carolyn Faye Gentry; and several siblings
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy K. Gilbert and husband, Greg, of Ruckersville; son, Alvis Wayne Knight and wife, Patsy, of Quinque; brothers, Elvin and Alton; sisters, Katherine and Lorene; eight grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren
The family would like to thank Dr. Brooke Bostic, Nurse Julie, and Felicia with Medi Home Hospice for their care and kindness in his final months
A funeral service was held on January 26, 2024, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with Pastor Eddie Deane and Ken Gilbert officiating. Interment took place in Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, Va. The family received friends one hour before the service at the funeral home
