Carter loved the water and was a swimmer most of her life. She loved the beach and tropical climate. She loved food and to try new foods. She loved to cook and try new recipes. She loved to garden, home renovation projects, painting, antiquity and music all kinds of music.

Carter had a very eclectic life, raised half in Atlanta and half in Valdosta. She went back to school as an older adult and achieved her bachelor's degree while running a hair salon in Atlanta. She completed her MBA. She overcame dyslexia in order to achieve both of her degrees. She never finished high school. but took her GED and yet went on to earn a two degrees. There were very few things that Carter tackled that she couldn't figure out. She was self-made, and was highly motivated. She lobbied the Georgia state legislature to name I-75 after her grandfather, Melvin Ernest Thompson Sr, who was the state revenue commissioner, lieutenant governor and governor of Georgia. Her grandfather Melvin Thompson purchased Jekyll Island for the state of Georgia for $675,000. She grew up with love of country, integrity, believing in public service and that all people should be treated equally regardless of their socioeconomic strata or the color of their skin. She loathed inefficiency and Injustice, she loved animals with all of her heart, all animals she loves nothing more than spending a rainy day at home with two of her dogs and a good movie. She loved ice cream. She loves so many people in her life that made up many different chapters and made a difference in her life. She loves trees, sunsets and the outdoors. She loved being loved and Inlove.

Carter overcame so many personal and environmental challenges in her life to try and be a success. What's the definition of success? Who knowns. She accomplished a great deal with very little help, fanfare or support. Without any motivation she created a life for herself whether how insignificant or not. She respected by some misunderstood by others but always 100% genuine to herself and knew what she stood for.

Carter Maria Thompson, born on February 7, 1963, in Valdosta, Georgia, lived a life rich in passion and resilience. Raised in both Atlanta and Valdosta, Carter's eclectic journey was marked by her deep love for the water, where she spent countless hours swimming and enjoying the beach. Carter also loved kayaking, being in nature and the look of Spanish moss blowing in the wind . Her adventurous spirit extended to her love for exotic foods to home cooking. Especially her grandmother's beloved pound cake.
An accomplished individual, Carter returned to education later in life, overcoming the challenges of dyslexia to earn both a bachelor's degree and an MBA while managing a hair salon in Atlanta. Her determination was evident in her advocacy, notably lobbying the Georgia state legislature to honor her grandfather, Former Governor Melvin Ernest Thompson Sr., by naming a portion of I-75 after him.
