Caroline Cornelia Beard, born on October 6, 1940, in Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, in Statesboro, Georgia. A dedicated engineer of technology and esteemed professor of CADD and engineering, Caroline made significant contributions to her field and inspired countless students throughout her career.

In addition to her professional achievements, Caroline was a passionate gardener who found joy in nurturing plants and beautifying her surroundings. She was also an enthusiastic Girl Scout leader for several years, instilling the values of leadership and community service in young girls. Caroline’s love for house renovations reflected her creative spirit, while her fondness for the Moody Blues provided a soundtrack to her life.

Caroline cherished her family above all, particularly her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and happiness. She is Proceeded in death by her parents Marvin and Cornelia Hembel and her daughter Rebecca Candice Nordick. She is survived by her husband, John Perry Beard, whom she married on August 21, 1982. Caroline is also survived by her children: Kelly Elisa Hiatt, Stephen Wendell Moore, Lydia Judith Chipman and Misty Ann Beard. Her grandchildren include Rikki Lynn Barnett, Thomas Allen Nordick, Kathy Ann Nordick, Caroline Elisa Hiatt, Candice Margaret (Meg) Hiatt, Katie Moore, Sarah Brey, Erin Moore, Roan Chipman, Bronwyn Chipman, Liam Chipman, and Bevin Chipman.

Caroline is also survived by her sister, Judith Beatrice Hembel, and her brother, Marvin Martin Hembel. She will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering support for her loved ones and community.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Caroline's memory to National Public Radio, Georgia Public Broadcasting, Master Gardeners of Athens, or the Georgia Southern University School of Engineering and Technology.
