Rev. Lawrence Jackson, Officiating

Obituary:

Rev. Calvin Earl Kindall, Sr. was born on May 16, 1950, in Fairfield, Alabama to Wilma Lee Kindall and the late Rev. James Edward Kindall, Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. R. E. Avery at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Englewood. He later joined True Light Missionary Baptist Church and served as an associate minister until his death.

Calvin was educated in the Fairfield School System, where he graduated from Fairfield Industrial High School in 1968 and was known for his shifty moves on the football field. He attended Miles College before being drafted into the military, where he served in the United States Army from 1970-1972. Upon his return, he became employed with US Steel and retired after 30 years of service.h

Calvin married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Carter, in May of 1970. To this union, two boys were born, Calvin Kindall, Jr. and Starlyn Kindall. He was also instrumental in helping to raise his nephew, Rodger Williams. His passion for family led to one of his favorite pastimes, discovering new family members. He had a knack for words and expressed that through poetry and storytelling, where he often reminisced on his time as a boxer while in the army. As an avid bowler, his love for the sport had no bounds. Even as his health declined, he remained true to the game by transitioning from participant to spectator to stay connected.

Calvin departed this life on Friday, February 28, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gwendolyn Kindall; father, James Edward Kindall, Sr.; two brothers, Colona Kindall and James Edward Kindall, Jr.; and one sister, Cynthia Elaine Kindall.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving mother, Wilma Lee Jones; two sons, Calvin E. Kindall, Jr. and Starlyn (Shemeka) Kindall; six grandchildren, Locquita, Torrey, Chassidy, Wade, Starlyn, Jr., and Carter; three great-grandchildren, Jalen, Myles, Jr., and Mykia; sister, Deborah Bowen; brother, Rev. Stanley (Norma Jean) Kindall, Sr.; two brothers-in-law, Wilson Carter and Starlyn Carter; one sister-in-law, Emma (last name); a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

-Acknowledgement

Perhaps you sent a lovely card
or sat quietly in a chair;
Perhaps you sent a floral spray,
if so, we saw it there.

Perhaps you spoke the kindest words
as any friend could say;
Perhaps you were not there at all
just thought of us that day.

Whatever you did
to console our hearts,
We thank you so much,
whatever the part.
