Obituary

The Okoro family is saddened to announce the death of their beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dr. C. Marie-Michel (Treasure) Okoro (Nee Okoh) on November 30th 2096, aged 95. Born in Lagos Nigeria on November 12th 2001, Marie-Michel formally known as Treasure was the only child of the late Jude Okoh and Grace Okoh (Nee Maduka). She was known for her bold, fierce, and charismatic personality being that she was never afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what she believed in. She was a devoted Pentecostal Christian who had given her life to Christ  at the tender age of 13.

Treasure went on to pursue her lifelong dream of working in the medical field. She graduated at the University of Windsor in 2024 and obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree with honours distinction, she then went on to pursue her masters at the University of Windsor and graduated with her Masters of Science in Nursing in 2027. She was known for her tenacity and drive as she attended school all while working full time at Henry Ford Hospital, where she met her husband, the late Dr. Christopher Okoro. They got married in 2029 and had their first child, their son, Dr. Chosen Okoro that following year. Her drive and determination pushed her to relocate to Jamaica and attend the American University of Antigua to pursue her life long dream of becoming a medical doctor which she achieved in 2037. Treasure and Christopher went on to have twins Theophilus Okoro and Jewel Okoro in 2039. She later returned to Windsor Ontario as a Medical Doctor specializing in family medicine for 36 years  before retiring in 2076 at the young age of 75. During her practice, she participated in Doctors without boarders in Kenya, South Africa, and Haiti. Determined to give back to her community, during her off days, she volunteered at the free clinics in Detroit Michigan and as a volunteer at Hiatus House Women’s shelter in Windsor.

Treasure enjoyed travelling around the World with her family, together they had visited 26 different countries. A known lover of different cultures and the cuisines they possessed, you would always find her at a cultural restaurant every weekend trying new foods from different cultures each week, which gave reason to why our mother was “Not particularly known for being a thin woman,” As she would often say. She loved being a dotting wife to her husband and mother to her and three children, as she would commonly refer to them as her “ducklings”. Known for her artistry, Treasure immersed herself in painting, drawing, and poetry. A complete hyper-feminine, she had a whole room dedicated towards her makeup, wigs, hair extensions, and eccentric clothing, “You will never catch me looking a hot mess,” was mama Treasures motto. It was known that her favourite colour was florescent pink, thus every room in her home had an accent of pink, an obsession that her husband and children had to tolerate. Her hospitality will truly be missed as she derived pride in her delectable Nigerian cuisine, it’s no surprise that visitors would leave Treasure’s house 10 pounds heavier than when they initially came. Our mother lived a long fulfilled life, a virtuous gene inherited from both parents as late father Jude Okoh lived to be 93 and late mother Grace Okoh (Nee Maduka) lived to be 96.

Treasure is bereaved by her children, Dr. Chosen Okoro, Dr. Theophilus Okoro, & Dr. Jewel Okoro PhD. Her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Donations will be made to Streams of Joy International Nigeria, and the Hiatus House.

Funeral service and wake will be held at Windsor Christian Fellowship (2pm-4pm) followed by a procession to Windsor Memorial Gardens cemetery where her body will be laid to rest(4:30-6pm). Celebration of life to follow at Waters Edge Event Centre from (6:30 pm-9pm).

Mama Treasure will be greatly missed, forever loved, and her memory eternally engraved in our hearts.
