With a strong character, a warm spirit, a captivating personality, and a kind heart, Mrs. Brenetta Higgs was born in Nassau on May 03,1927 to the now deceased Edna Smith and Thomas Higgs.

Brenetta was a robustious headstrong woman, never lazy, always wanting to do something. She attended the All Age School in Grand Turk and at the age of 14 because of her parents inability to pay for her schooling, she began working along with her father the Late Leroy Miller, who was an expert tailor who taught her to be a seamstress. She was very creative with her hands. Growing up in Grand Turk, Netta spent many days as a young girl swimming and fishing. She also loved cooking and taught many of her skills of cooking, a tender conch or savory bonefish with no bones.

As a young lady, she was very mischievous, and along with her friends such as Shirley Caley Sr, Percy, Lewellyn and Mary Williams, were the practical jokers of their day. They were involved in many mischievous acts including riding bikes wearing dresses with no underwear blowing in the wind.

Brenetta met and fell in love with the calm and handsome Leroy Higgs and on September 30th, 1959 they were joined in marriage. This union produced eight children,Beatrice,Gerard, Leroy, Louise, Catherine, Chivan, Denise and Ianthe.

In order to improve the standard of living and provide a better future for her family Netta & Leroy moved to Turks and Caicos, their family later joined them there. Netta had 16 grand children,  10 great grandchildren and 9 great great grand children. 

On October 17, 2022 after a quiet day, she suddenly started having trouble breathing and was rushed to the hospital, where she later died unexpectedly, and peacefully.

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of a remarkable woman who gave of herself, her resources and her time to so many. She left lasting memories in the hearts and minds of those she came in contact with, our lives and world are a better place because of Brenetta Higgs who will live forever in our hearts.
