Blanche Marie Benson-McKay, affectionately known as Tonie, was born on September 25, 1949, in Saint Louis, MO. She was the oldest daughter of the late Louis Steed and Daisy Bramlett.
After graduating from Soldan High, she continued her education by getting her Cosmetology license in 1968. Always driven to further her passion, she then got her Barbering license from Missouri school of Barbering and Hairstyling, as well as obtaining her Instructors license from Patsy and Rob College. She dedicated over 50 years to her career in cosmetology, where she became known for her innovative styles, healing hands and ability to uplift those around her.
Blanche loved nothing more than spending quality time with her family and friends. Also known for her passion for cooking, often preparing savory meals and sweet treats that brought joy to those she loved. Her generous spirit extended beyond her family; she dedicated herself to giving back to her community, offering support in anyway to anyone. Tonie's loving, tough, and sweet personality left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Her strong Christian faith guided her, and she often reminded others to "always trust God" and to "give God all your worries." She has transitioned to be with the Lord and be with her beloved son, Charles Anthony Steed, her brother Betram Steed and sister Barbara Ann Steed and father, Louis Steed.
She leaves to cherish, her loving mother Daisy Bramlett, her devoted husband, Mark McKay, her son Roderick Benson, daughter Felicia Richardson, five grand children, six great-grandchildren, nine siblings and a host of family and friends. Blanche will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but will forever be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the love she shared with those around her.
Wake starts at 10am and funeral to start immediately after at 11am.
