Betty Martha Ann Swift was born on February 25, 1937, to William Jarrett and Mary Edna Jarrett. She was one the fifth child out of 13 children. 9 girls and 4 boys.

“Doll” was very clever and smart; she tutored some of her older brothers who were in high school. Also, she surpassed her siblings by skipping grades it school. She had a photographic memory which allowed her to serve as the family Rolodex.

Doll attended Lauderdale High School. She ended her schooling at the age of 16, but always said that she would graduate before her baby. Before the

graduation of her youngest child, Charity Lynn, Doll enrolled in the GED program at Haywood High School. At the age of 60, she finally reccived her GED from Haywood High School in 1998, months before her youngest graduated. Doll married early to Eddie Lewis Swift, November 21, 1952. They shared 71 years of marriage. From their union together, she birthed 15 children.

She was quite skilled in sewing, often creating an entire wedding party ensemble without patterns, and sometimes she made her own patterns. Doll loved quilting patterns and shared them with family members. She sustained her household by canning the fresh produce that she raised. Doll loved

interacting with strangers and caring for the elderly, but she loved caring for children the most. She helped rear grandchildren and provided care for other children as well.

Doli was preceded in death by: her parents, William "Bill" Jarrett and Mary Edna (Johnson) Jarrett; siblings, Mary Bernice Jarrett (Powell), Sherman James Jarrett, Herman John Jarrett, Juanita Jarrett (Carpenter), Maxine Jarret (Bentley), Nathaniel Jarrett, Christopher Columbus Jarrett. Daniel Jarrett, William Harris Jarrett, and Bobbie Robert Jarrett, and children, Eddie L. Swift It. Daddy Ray Swift, Debbie Jean Swift, and Roman Franklin Swift.

Doll leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Eddie L. Swift; siblings: George Ed (Joyce) Jarrett and Winston Gerald (Cathy) Jarrett.
