Betsy Jane Alexander Byrom, of Gainesville, TX, passed away peacefully on June 9th. She was the daughter of Dr. Joe and Janie Alexander of Abilene, TX. Betsy was born in Crosbyton, TX, on March 3, 1958. She graduated from Abilene Cooper High School in 1976, where she was actively involved in cheerleading. Betsy then pursued her studies at Texas A&M, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a master’s degree in Equine Reproduction in 1982. During her college years, she competed on the TAMU Rodeo Team, barrel racing.
Betsy was an avid animal lover with a special passion for horses. She was deeply involved in the horse industry with a professional career that started with an internship with Manion Ranch, before branching out on her own.
On October 5, 1985, Betsy married Phillip Steven Byrom. Together, they established Briarwood Farms, a breeding and equine care facility in Gainesville, TX, in 1986, which was recognized by the AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association)as an accredited breeder.
Betsy was dedicated to her horse blanket wash and repairbusiness. Betsy enjoyed the work she did, and the friendships made at Smith Feed in Gainesville, TX.
Phillip and Betsy had one son, Alex Byrom, born on December 4, 1999. He was her greatest joy, and she devoted her life to him.
Betsy is survived by her son, Alex Byrom; her brother Joe Bob Alexander and his wife Donalyn of Abilene; her sister Eunice Alexander Hamrick of Stephenville; and her nieces and nephews Austin Alexander, Ryan Alexander, Cody Hamrick, and Stephanie Hamrick Hohertz.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dan Alexander.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lone Oak Ranch & Retreat in Gainesville, Tx at 3:00pm. A place to gather and retell the stories of a woman whom was very close to our hearts.
