Obituary

On October 10, 1955 God planted a seed from which a beautiful flower bloomed.  Bernetta Williams was born to the late Albert Williams II and Joycelyn Williams in New York, NY. She was third of ten children.  She departed this life on October 8, 2013 at St. Luke Roosevelt Hospital.

Bernetta Williams, lovingly known as “Netta” did not just walk this earth, she LIVED!! She was an honest (sometimes brutally so) and forthcoming spirit; you always knew where you stood with Netta.  She was fearless.  Netta was confident and didn’t apologize for who she was.  Netta’s heart was kind and generous.  There was no mistaking that she cared.  Many have called Netta “the life of the party” and she was!  Her spirit would fill the room and she welcomed all who were ready to have a good time too.   She loved to sing and dance and play scratch off cards, be loud, and make you laugh. She was just an all around joyful person when you got to know her and you’d eventually fall in love with her. On September 6, 2013, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior, and was baptized.

Preceding Bernetta in death are her father Albert Williams II and brother Darren Williams.

Bernetta is survived by her two children; her daughter, Kwana Raleigh, and son, Kwaun; her mother, Joycelyn; three grandchildren: Ki-Jana Raleigh, Kamahjai Raleigh, and K’Amir Raleigh; her son in-law Anthony Raleigh; her five brothers: Albert (Scoobie), Anthony, Carl, Kevin, and Roger Harris; her four sisters, Brenda Gosey, Sharon Cook, Patricia Slaughter, and Beverly Berry;  one sister in-law Jackie Williams; her three brother in-laws: Jenera Gosey, Johnny Slaughter, and Bill Cook; her nieces: Shanee’, Nyckole, Rogera, Tyler, Chrishandra and Tymekia; her nephews: Jayson, Albert (Lil Scoobie), Korey, Marcus, Kevin Jr., Drake, Christian, and Antone; and a host of aunts, cousins and friends.

We will miss you Netta; but now that she has been called home we will not mourn. Instead, we will celebrate because she is free and she has left us a lifetime of memories, laughter and good times to share. You are not forgotten but will forever be remembered. You have impacted a lot of lives and taught, protected, and uplifted many. We love you and miss you dearly ENJOY PARADISE Netta!!!
