Obituary

Benjamin “Benny” Lindsey, 78, of Temple Hills, MD, passed away on Thursday February 29, 2024.  A native of Union, SC, he was the first-born offspring of Mrs. Mary Degraphenreid Lindsey and Mr. Aldolphus Lindsey, who both preceeded him in death.

In his earlier years, Benjamin was known to play sports, being one of the top football players at Sims High School. He relocated to the Washington, DC area for a spell, returning to Union to continue school & also work at Sunny Slopes Peach Farm in Gaffney. In 1964, he made Washington, DC his permanent home. Here he met and married Maria Robinson, and from this union two children were born: SheRina Maria "Stinka" & Everett Benjamin "Spikey" (Patricia). In his later years he welcomed another son with Peggie Hayes. This son would carry the name of his mischievous spirit Dennis DeAndre' "Smokey" (Alicia).

His career spanned from working at a tire shop, performing auto repair, being a driving instructor, beverage distribution and lastly assistant manager of retail sales. In his free time, he enjoyed being the business manager of the Mavericks Social Club which held sporting events where he excelled in baseball, along with other entertainment throughout the area. However, his ultimate pastime was watching his Redskins/Commanders football team play. Benjamin had a true love for the game and his team.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, SheRina Maria Lindsey-Stewart; two sons, Everett Lindsey (Patricia) and Dennis Lindsey (Alicia); adopted children Don Wade, Kendra Artis, Crissy Artis; granddaughters, Patrice Medley, Alyrah Davis, Shayla Washington, Atiya Artis, Jordan Artis and Cove Lindsey; grandsons, Dante' Cunningham, Demaji Turner, DeAndre & Deante Wade, and Steele Lindsey; sisters; Gervaise Stepp "BoBo" (Eddie), Gladys Lindsey "Dot", Rose Marie Savage "ReGal", Sandra Sims "Sand", Gwendolyn Craig "Pete" (William), Tyra Parham "Trina" (Jerry), Shayera Whitfield "Gale" (Shearton), and Karen Lindsey Kay"; brothers; Jaytheron Lindsey "Dale" (Donna) and Terence Lindsey "Rod" (Karen); dear friends, Lethia Moore and family and Pat Montague; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will miss him dearly.
