Obituary

Barry Gurney, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 24th, at the age of 74 in his home in West Hills, California. He was known for his bowling prowess, humor, and unwavering love for his family.

Barry was born in Simi Valley, California on March 25th, 1950. He grew up in Simi Valley, where he developed a passion for bowling. He graduated from Toledo high school and went on to have a successful career in minor league bowling. Barry's dedication to his passion was matched only by his commitment to his family.

In 1982, Barry married the love of his life, Joan Gurney, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years. Together, they raised 5 children: Victoria Wilson, Cheryl Davis, Mike Gurney, Gary Gurney, and Casey Gurney. Barry was a devoted father, always supporting his children in their pursuits and encouraging them to follow their dreams.

Barry's greatest joy was his role as a father, as well as grandfather. He adored his grandchildren, Kayla Casamassima, Hayley (Caleb) Wilson, Joseph Gurney, and Charlotte Davis; and they cherished their time together, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Outside of family, Barry was known for his support for the West Valley Christian Church, as well as all of his volunteer work and contributions he made for the betterment of his community. He had a great sense of humor and could always be counted on to lighten the mood with a joke or a witty remark.

Barry is survived by Joan Gurney, Victoria Wilson, Cheryl Davis, Mike Gurney, Gary, and Casey Gurney. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him; and he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A private memorial service for the family to celebrate Barry's life will be held at the Los Angeles Area Dignity Memorial on July 5th at 3:00pm.
