Barbara Jean Osher, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Columbia, SC in the early morning hours of April 25, 2024 at the age of 80. She was born on July 25, 1943, in Manhattan Beach, CA, and brought joy and laughter to those around her.
Barbara had a zest for life and a passion for various hobbies. She found solace in music, teaching, bowling, and playing Bridge. Nothing brought her more comfort than having a cat on her lap, as she adored their soothing presence. Barbara's favorite place in the world was the beach, where she would find tranquility and happiness.
Barbara's love for music and teaching was evident as some of her most memorable years were spent instructing children and young adults to play the piano. Some of those under her tutelage won awards for their marked playing ability. Not only did Barbara seek out and enjoy participation in church choir, she also spent many years as a member of a musical ensemble in Southern California where she formed lasting relationships and showcased her voice. Her dedication to spreading the joy of music touched the lives of many and left a lasting impact.
She is survived by her husband Jules Osher, three wonderful sons: Sean Gilman & fiance Cheryl Morin, Colin Gilman & wife Karen Gilman, and the late David Gilman. Barbara was also a proud grandmother to Makayla Gilman, Erin Gilman, Jerrick Duncan Gilman and Sean Gilman, Jr., two great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren: Bryan Bauer, Adam Wolf and Mackinlay Wolf and two step-great-grandchildren.
Barbara's vibrant personality was marked by her quick wit and sense of humor. She always had a corny joke at the ready, often delighting those around her with a Dad-Joke before they were called Dad-Jokes.
Barbara's spirit and love will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. May she rest in peace, forever remembered for her laughter, kindness, and the joy she brought into the lives of others.
