Barbara Ellen McKay, affectionately known as "Barbie," passed away on September 13, 2024, in Whitefish, Montana, at the age of 60. Born on July 23, 1964, in Bowman, North Dakota, she was the beloved daughter of Floyd and Janie Steig.
Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Brad McKay and Kevin McKay, and her stepson, Brody Thilmony. She also leaves behind her stepdaughter, Brittney O’Neil, and stepson, Chancy Thilmony, along with seven cherished grandchildren: Gavin, Lucy, Zoey O’Neil, Wyatt McKay, and Karcyn, Macyn, and Dexter McConnell.
A graduate of Whitefish High School, Barbara enjoyed a fulfilling career at Food Depot and Imagination Station. She was known for her nurturing spirit, sense of humor, and ability to encourage those around her. Her superpower was being everyone’s mother and the keeper of stories, a role she embraced wholeheartedly.
Barbara cherished her time outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing with her family. She was not only a loving mother but also a caring sister to Kris Steig, Jeri Murinko, and Brian Steig, and a beloved aunt to her niece, Alicyn McConnell.
Her impact on the lives of others was profound, as she embraced everyone with open arms and a warm heart. Barbara will be deeply missed and remembered for her laughter, love, and the countless stories she shared.
