Barbara Ann Carter, born on December 18, 1940, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, passed away on October 2, 2024, in the Bronx, New York. A cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Barbara was known for her unwavering love for her family, which included her four children, Angelo Courts, Robert Courts, Althea Courts, and James Carter Jr.. Her six grandchildren, Eric Carter, Tashina Courts, Shaniqua Carter, Michael Carter, Robert Dawon Courts James Trae Carter, and Neena Carter. And, her five great-grandchildren, Eric’s kids names, Jayce Carter and Indie Carter.
Barbara dedicated over 20 years of her career to the NY Telephone Company before retiring. She found joy in simple pleasures such as playing the Lotto (and the “numbers”), traveling, watching game shows like Jeopardy, The Price is Right, Let’s Make A Deal, and Family Feud. A woman of deep faith, Barbara loved the Lord with all her heart and often lifted up His name, famously asking, “Can He do it?” and following that up with a resounding “Yes He Can!” to inspire those around her.
Her analytical nature was complemented by a fun-loving spirit; she enjoyed engaging in crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. Barbara’s ability to listen, show empathy, and provide guidance made her a cherished confidante to many. Her strength in the face of adversity was a testament to her faith and resilience, leaving a profound impact on everyone she encountered.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 30 years, James Louis Carter Sr. She was actively involved in her church and community, spreading positivity and kindness wherever she went. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched with her warmth, humor, beautiful smile, contagious laugh and unwavering faith.
