Anita Brown, affectionately known as Nita, passed away on May 31, 2024, at the age of 90. She was born on April 23, 1934, in Columbia, SC, and had been residing in New York, NY, at the time of her passing.
Throughout her life, Anita made significant contributions as a choir director and youth director. She shared her passion for music and guided countless individuals in their musical pursuits. Anita's favorite saying, "Stay black and die," reflected her unwavering pride in her heritage and her commitment to living life authentically.
Anita's proudest accomplishment was her role as a Girl Scout troop leader, where she mentored and inspired young girls to develop confidence, leadership skills, and a spirit of service. She believed in the power of nurturing and empowering the next generation.
Anita was married to her beloved husband Kenneth, and they shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Together, they raised three sons, Kenny, d'andre, and the late Avery. Anita's role as a mother was one of her greatest joys, and she poured her heart into providing a loving and supportive home for her children.
Anita is survived by her siblings, Kenneth, Angela, and Marlena, as well as her parents, Harold and Barbara. She will be remembered for her strong-willed and outspoken nature, as well as her unwavering care and generosity towards others. Anita impacted the lives of many through her selflessness, taking people in, and providing a safe haven for those in need.
