Obituary

Andrew James Craig Esq., as I knew him walked on to his next destination August 6, 2026 in San Diego California after a long illness. Mr. Craig was born in Hanford California in 1951 a Libra born under the sign of the Metal Rabbit. After he moved with his mother to the Monterey Peninsula he became a member of the theatre community.

Mr. Craig was the manager of the MPC theatre for over 20 years. To audiences and member of the Monterey Peninsula theatre community he was known as “The man with the hat”  While he told friends that he hated public speaking, he was the first person you saw at each  of the plays produced for the main stage. There his wit and humor were combined with his love of the artform. That was his performance and when the play got applause, so did he.

Andrew was known by face and name and the best restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula. When he walked in to the Whaling Station or Sardine Factory on Cannery Row or Anton & Michel in Carmel or the Bath House in Pacific Grove he was greeted and seated with genuine hospitality.  Andrews love of beauty was shared gleefully with people this included fine artwork that he collected and his curated and sometimes spontaneous gifts.

Mr. Craig is proceeded in passing by his dear friend Sweet William Cates of Texas, and his cats Dave and Jigga, He will be missed by his long loving friends, Conlin Keator, Constance Gamier, Jeannie Ferrara, the Witt sisters, Linda Smith and Steve Retsky among many other dear people.  Mr. Craig is survived by family.

Because Andrew loved all animals and wishes donations in his name be made to World Wildlife Federation and to Mission Home Health Hospice of San Diego.

A celebration of the gift of Andrew will be a dinner in the near future where we will for the final time be a member of “Mr. Craig’s Party”.
