Amira “Shay” Smith, 78, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Born and raised in Virginia Beach, Shay lived a life full of laughter, faith, and fierce love for her family and community.
A proud graduate of her local high school, Shay always carried herself with grace and a touch of humor—often reminding those around her with her favorite motto, “I’m finna get irritated,” whenever things didn’t quite go as planned.
She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Decorius Barnes, and together they built a family rooted in love and strength. Shay was the devoted mother of three sons, and her joy only grew with the arrival of her grandchildren—two granddaughters and one grandson—who were the light of her later years.
Deeply committed to uplifting others, Shay was a proud member of the National Women’s League of Empowerment, where she championed women’s voices and empowerment in her community. Her faith guided her throughout her life as a dedicated member of her Baptist church, where she found both fellowship and peace.
Shay’s presence will be remembered for her warmth, wit, and unshakable spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and empowerment—a reflection of a life well lived and deeply loved.
Would you like me to make it sound more formal and newspaper-ready, or more personal and story-like, as if written by family for her memorial service?
We'll plant real trees for you in Amira's memory and display your contribution forever.
