Alvin Ray Mathis Sr., known affectionately as Baby Ray, passed away on March 21, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on December 24, 1944, in San Antonio, TX, Alvin was a beloved member of the Gonzales, TX community.
Alvin had a passion for auto mechanics and fishing, which brought him great joy throughout his life. He was also a fan of jazz music, finding solace and inspiration in its captivating melodies. However, Alvin's true happiness came from spending time with his children and family, as they meant the world to him.
Alvin's professional life included a military career after attending college. He believed in the importance of preparedness, often quoting the adage, "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure."
Throughout his journey, Alvin shared his life with his loving wife, Mattie Butler. Together, they created a beautiful family, blessed with seven children and a host of grandchildren. Alvin's parents, along with his siblings, also survive him.
Alvin will be remembered for his sociable nature and ability to connect with others. Known by many as Baby Ray, he left a lasting impact on the lives of those he encountered.
A Christian by faith, Alvin's spirituality guided him in his everyday life. His legacy will live on through the memories he created and the love he shared with his family and friends.
