Obituary

Alexander J. McLavish, a proud U.S Army Veteran, known affectionately as Al, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on August 11, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on September 9, 1952, in Newark, NJ, he spent his final years in Lambertville, MI.

Al spent many years as a dedicated manufacturer who took pride in his work and made significant contributions to his field throughout his career. He was a loving father to his son, Jason McLavish, who he has now been reunited with in heaven. He had love for his grandchildren Jared (Madison) Popp, Gabriel McLavish, and Laci McLavish. Also, his (2) grand-dogs Neko and Zeko and (3) great-grandchildren Noelle, Atticus, and Riley Popp.

A man of simple pleasures, Al had a fondness for chocolate ice cream, sugar-free candies, and enjoyed indulging in his favorite dish—lasagna. He liked to end his nights with a vodka and tonic. He held a special place in his heart for Las Vegas, which he considered his favorite destination and had upcoming plans to visit. He also had a love for music, at night he could be heard playing his guitar and listening to his rock music.

Al was a newly found Christian, and his faith played an important role as he was adjusting to his new life as a Christian. He will be remembered for his jokes, warm spirit, kindness, and the love he shared with those around him especially his girl "Angel" they had a bond like no other.

He leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his family and friends. Al's presence will be deeply missed.

No services will be held as the family is respecting Al's wishes instead they will enjoy a dinner at Chateau Louise in Luna Pier, Michigan per his request before he and his son Jason depart to Las Vegas, Nevada their final resting place.

Al's final words in the presence of his family... Thanks for the journey and those who made it great. Rather than mourn, tell everyone to celebrate the memories. When I leave this earth don't cry and tell the world how much you love and miss me when you should have loved me while I was still here. I am at peace, I am comfortable, and I am surrounded by love. As the end is nearing tell Gabe and Laci grandpa loves them and I am sorry I wasn't allowed the opportunity to spend more time with them. Tell Jared I love him too and I wish I could have met the kids. Take a picture of me and let everyone know I'm ok as he gives the 1/2 thumbs up (inside joke).

Any contributions, please consider donating to the Toledo or Ann Arbor VA as a way of giving back to our veterans.
