Alan Lee Fankhauser (67), loving son, brother, father, grandpa, and friend, of Racine, WI, passed away on November 20th, 2024.
Alan was born on January 14th, 1957, to Melvin Olmstead Fankhauser (Dupree, SD) and Audrey Sinclair Brush (Brighton, England) in Modesto, CA. Alan was not a shy kid and would love to play with the neighborhood kids growing up. He and his younger brother loved to go to the movies, ride bikes, build tree houses and race carts, and go shopping with their mom. Every summer Alan and his brother would spend a week at their grandpa's dairy farm. Alan graduated from Grace Davis High School in 1965 and then went on to join the U.S. Army.
Alan did his basic training at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA in 1966. After, he was stationed at Fort Johnson (formerly known as Fort Polk), in Vernon Parish, LA where he served as a military police officer. Alan deployed to Nha Trang Vietnam from 1968-1970.
After his years in the military Alan came to Racine, WI. Alan loved riding his motorcycle, golfing, skiing, and most importantly starting and raising a family. Alan loved to go camping with his kids and he supported all of them in their various activities. He taught all his kids new things from riding bikes to fishing. Alan was a patient and fun dad that always encouraged his children to follow their dreams but most importantly he showed them nothing but unconditional love.
Alan retired from the Racine County Veteran's Services Offices in 2017 where he was dedicated to helping veterans with disabilities. After his retirement Alan was able to devote more time to things he cherished such as gardening and collecting stamps. Alan also met a special woman, Sharon Misaki, who he loved going on long drives in his Vette with. They also enjoyed spending time together in Racine, WI and lunches at the Village Baking Company. Alan loved getting together with family and friends, he had a large group of close friends whom he had for over 50 years. Alan loved to be around his grandchildren and the title of grandpa/papa was something he wore proudly.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Alan touched are invited to his services on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024.
