Obituary

Edward Alan Coleman, Jr.
May 6, 1971 – April 7, 2026

Edward “Alan” Coleman, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026.

Alan was born in Nashville to Basilia and Edward Alan Coleman, Sr. He attended Christ the King School for elementary education, Father Ryan High School, and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1990. He went on to attend Middle Tennessee State University, where he studied Television and Video Production.

Following college, Alan joined his father’s company, Coleman Teleproductions, where he worked as a camera operator and lighting engineer. In 2000, he began a long and meaningful career with the Grand Ole Opry, serving as a camera operator for over 20 years. He was also a proud member of IATSE Local 46 Stagehand Union for more than two decades.

Alan developed a love for collecting at an early age. As a child, he collected comic books, baseball cards, and antique toy cars. As an adult, he continued this passion, focusing on movie memorabilia and toys—especially those from the 1980s.

A devoted sports fan, Alan was an original Tennessee Titans season ticket holder and was especially excited about the new stadium, where he had already secured his seats. He remained a loyal fan through every season, celebrating both victories and challenges. He also enjoyed cheering on the Nashville Predators, the New York Yankees, and following NASCAR racing.

Alan loved being outdoors and working with his hands. He had a natural ability to fix almost anything and truly embodied the spirit of a “jack of all trades.” With countless hobbies and interests, he approached life with curiosity and enthusiasm, never meeting a pastime he didn’t enjoy. Above all, Alan was known for his kindness, his generosity, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. He had a truly big heart and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Edward Alan Coleman, Sr., and his mother, Basilia Zita Coleman.

He is survived by his sister, Zee Pendleton (Brad); his brother, Tim Coleman; his uncle, Bill Shapard (Lori); his cousin, Tyler Shapard (Amanda); his nieces, Lia Dameron (Dylan), Margaret Anne Betz (Ches), and Bitsy Pendleton; his great-nephew, James Dameron; great-nieces, Silia Dameron, and Mia, Penny, and Lucy Betz.
