Walter Franklin DePriest, known affectionately as Frank, was born on June 18, 1948, in Wichita, Kansas, where he spent most of his life. He passed away on October 31, 2024, in the same city, leaving behind a legacy filled with passion and a love for adventure.

Walter was a devoted car enthusiast, particularly fond of classic cars, which he took delight in restoring not only in Kansas but also during his time in the Philippines. His involvement in local car clubs in Wichita and a Volkswagen club in the Philippines reflected his dedication to this hobby. A proud American, Walter was also a political enthusiast, often sharing his opinions with a stubbornness that matched his short temper and sharp wit.

He married Haidee in the Philippines on August 17, 2012, and together they created cherished memories, including travels to new places and enjoying live music. Walter had a profound love for good food, especially American and Mexican cuisine, and often enjoyed the music of bands like The Beatles, Journey, and local favorite Across The Pond.

Walter graduated from Wichita South High and was deeply rooted in his community, supporting local sports teams such as Wichita State, Kansas University Basketball, and the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR racing and had a particular fondness for old Western movies featuring John Wayne.

Family was incredibly important to Walter. He is survived by his children, Ian DePriest and Carmela Oropesa (Matthew), as well as his grandchildren, Cristiano Morris and great-granddaughter Nadine Morris. He also leaves behind his brother Ronald (Vann) and sisters Connie Thomas, Joyce Penrod, Alta Jones, and June DePriest. Walter was predeceased by his parents, John Taylor Sr. and Verna DePriest, and his brothers, John Taylor Jr. and James.

A Christian by faith, Walter lived by the motto, "At times you have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover is yourself," a testament to his adventurous spirit and quest for knowledge.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, unwavering loyalty to friends and family, and his unique ability to engage in lively discussions. Walter Franklin DePriest will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
