Robert Carlton Bliss passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home in McDonough, Georgia, on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on August 3rd, 1944 in Taunton, Massachusetts, Robert—known affectionately as Bob—was a proud and devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He graduated from Clearwater High School in 1962 and immediately answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Navy. He proudly served on active duty in a submarine squadron during the Bay of Pigs conflict from 1962 to 1964, and he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1964 to 1972. He attended St. Petersburg Junior College from 1966 to 1968 where he met Joyce. They were married on September 1, 1968 and graduated from the University of West Florida in 1970 with bachelors’ degrees.
After graduation, Bob began his career in the printing industry at NCR in Atlanta. He and Joyce moved to Macon, where they started their family, and then returned to Atlanta where he joined MicroTek. Subsequently, he was an entrepreneur, owning and operating his own printing business, The Gas Station. Later in life, he dedicated his time to serving the community as a sexton at Loganville United Methodist Church.
Bob will be remembered for his kind spirit, sharp humor, tireless work ethic, and deep love for God, family, and his country. A man of strong faith, he was an active and dedicated member of all the churches he attended, including Trinity Lutheran Church, Berkmar UMC, Loganville UMC, and Wesley Way UMC.
Even as he bravely battled the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease, Bob maintained his positive outlook, demonstrating resilience and an enduring desire to be present for his loved ones. The most important thing in his life was his family; he treasured his role as a devoted husband and beloved "Papa."
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce Bliss; his children, Jason Bliss (Melanie), Josh Bliss (Samantha), and Rachel Ewert (Scott). He was a beloved "Papa" to his grandchildren Julianne Bliss (Tyler Duvall); Allison and Tyler Bliss; Ryder, Jaxon, and Elaina Ewert; and great-grandson Elliot Duvall. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald Bliss and Richard Bliss (Carol); his sister, Linore Wallace (Jim); and nieces and nephews Jenny Buffington (Dan), Wendy Vargo, Ty Bliss, and David Bliss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Linwood and Eleanor Bliss, and his sister-in-law, Judy Bliss, the cherished late wife of his brother Ronald, and nephew Mark Bliss.
A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Wesley Way United Methodist Church located at 150 John Wesley Way, McDonough, Georgia 30252. Visitation will occur the hour prior to the service, starting at 1:30 p.m., and a dinner reception provided by the church will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s memory to the Alzheimer Association (www.alz.org) or to Wesley Way United Methodist Church.
