Obituary

Mario Badillo, a beloved member of the Lubbock community, passed away on May 6, 2024, at the age of 60. He was born on September 22, 1965, in Lubbock, Texas, to Trinidad and Juanita (Cruz) Badillo. Mario attended Dunbar High School and later pursued his studies at TSTI in San Marcos.

In 1988, Mario married the love of his life, Thelma Martinez, and they shared 42 wonderful years together. Mario was a devoted father to his two sons, Mario E. Badillo and Alejandro E. Badillo, and cherished spending time with them.

Mario was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for 31 years. He served faithfully and volunteered countless hours of his time, making a positive impact on the lives of others. He was also a dedicated leader in the Boy Scouts of Lubbock, serving as a pack leader and guiding countless young scouts.

Professionally, Mario co-owned T&M Painting with his father, working as a paint contractor until retirement. He took great pride in his work and the legacy he built alongside his father.

When Mario wasn't working or giving back to his community, he enjoyed indulging in his favorite pastimes. Fishing, bowling, baseball, and football, particularly supporting his beloved Dallas Cowboys, brought him immense joy.

Mario will be deeply missed by his wife, Thelma, and his sons, Mario and Alejandro. He is also survived by his mother, Juanita Badillo; sisters, Maria Iruegas and Hilda Torres (Jesus); 7 nieces and nephews, and 8 grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Mario was preceded in death by his father, Trinidad, and brother, Tomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 11, 2024, at Mission San Jose Catholic Church, officiated by Father Jerry Kenny. Prior to the service, his family will receive friends on May 8 at Sunset North Funeral Home Chapel, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

In memory of Mario, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the Diabetes Association. Mario's impact, kindness, and dedication to his community will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
