Billy Ray Taylor, born on March 14, 1948, in Longview, TX, peacefully passed away on May 4, 2024, in Tucson, AZ. He was the beloved son of Sidney Taylor and Annie Collins. Billy grew up alongside his siblings, oldest sister Eva Harper (Frankie), baby sister Rose Bennett (Elvin), and baby brother Michael Roberson (Arlene).
Billy attended Mary C. Womack High School, graduating with the Class of 1966. He furthered his education at Texas Christian University.
Billy's dedication to his country led him to join the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He displayed bravery and valor throughout his military career, earning the respect of his comrades.
Family was of utmost importance to Billy. He was a loving father to his son Reggie Mitchell and a proud grandfather to Dante' Mitchell and Aliyah Mitchell. Billy held a special place in his heart for his nephews Don Harper and Charles Ray, who were like brothers to him. He also cherished his cherished his best friend, Tal Alexander.
Billy was a faithful Christian, having given his life to Christ at a young age. He found solace and guidance at Mt. Cavalry Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor GC Melton.
During his life, Billy touched the lives of many. He will be remembered for his strength, courage, and unwavering commitment to his family and country. Billy was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, a special stepson, and grandmother.
The memories of Billy's infectious laughter, kindness, and selflessness will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire generations to come.
